The sculptor Joscha Bender (*1991) from Mönchengladbach is exhibiting his impressive works of art at the Old Mill as part of the annual summer exhibition entitled “Through the Flower”. This year the opening will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 4 pm at the Old Mill. 

In his work, Joscha Bender explores the possibilities of representational sculpture – sometimes playful, sometimes powerful. He carves his sculptures directly from the block of stone. In his new series "Proverbs," plants and animals become central motifs. The sculptures originate from idioms or proverbial imagery. The summer exhibition "Through the Flower" brings together several of these works: an oversized dandelion made of limestone entitled "Weeds Never Die," a sandstone ear of cornice growing from a millstone, and the work "Ask a Chicken," which references a statement from AI research. 

The exhibition title "Through the Flower" in German alludes to a dual level: on the one hand, to the depicted plant, and on the other, to a form of indirect communication. Bender contrasts the fleeting nature of language with a sculptural statement, which, for the artist, constitutes the appeal of his works. 

The summer exhibition is being held in cooperation with the Scheffel Gallery from Bad Homburg. To attend the opening ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 4 p.m. at An der Alten Mühle 20, please register by calling 06196/490-180. The exhibition runs until October 4, 2026.
